In the Summer of ‘69, I was on the beach at Vin Drin Dop, taking up residence in a former VC post that had been cleaned out by the 1/9 in a early morning Huey raid. I set up a shaping bay and started a small concession and called it , Victor Charlie Surfboards Surplus and Supply. Visiting R’n’R personnel could rent a board or buy some surf trunks. Not just ordinary trunks, but the Papa’s Nui Nalu’s.
Taking inspiration from a pair of OG-107’s, I rejigged the pattern into shorts and then contacted Militaria 1911 to supply the fabric.
Militaria 1911’s Daichi Nagisa is the worlds leading manufacturer of Tiger Stripe Fabrics. An obsession of his that has reproduced not only thread count but also period dye methods obtained from an original late 1960's pair of Gold Tiger Stripe trousers acquired many years ago.
The Nui Nalu’s are a classic beach short to be worn in or out of the water, featuring drainage eyelets to empty the pocket bags or excess moisture. 100% cotton and made exclusively in Japan by Militaria 1911 these shorts are a premium addition to your beach kit and come fully endorsed by the Papa, Lance Johnson and Col.Kilgore.
Sizing guide:
These shorts are constructed with side tabs so they can be adjusted by minimum 2” in the waist if required or preferred.
The products are wonderful, imaginative and without peer. But at the price, one of each? I have more than one piece of kit, perhaps two pins with a patch?
Really good work overall.
